Greenbrier River
Set amid the majestic Allegheny Mountains, in an area rich in history and natural beauty, lay the Greenbrier River and the Greenbrier River Trail. In May, River Riders is offering an exclusive overnight tour of the River, the rugged beauty of Pocahontas County, and Cass, WV, complete with canoeing, camping, biking, and a train ride.
Day One features a canoe outing on the Greenbrier, widely regarded as a canoeist’s paradise. This float trip includes clear water, bountiful fish (smallmouth bass, rock bass, and bronzebacks), lush forests, and mountain solitude, with or without rapids, your choice. You’ll spend the evening around a campfire sharing stories and recalling the well-kept secrets of southern West Virginia.
Day Two rounds out the adventure with a half-day bike ride on the Greenbrier River Trail, designated West Virginia’s “Millennium Legacy Trail” by the White House Millennium Council and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The transformation of this century-old railroad bed into a scenic bicycle path both “honors the past and imagines the future” and showcases the extraordinary Greenbrier River Valley. After biking, you’ll be whisked away to a train ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad. Your trip to Cass will be filled with rich and living history, unparalleled views of vast wilderness from atop Bald Mountain (at 4842 feet, it’s West Virginia’s second highest peak), and close-up encounters with the sights and sounds of original steam-driven locomotives.
The Greenbrier River Paddle & Peddle Package includes biking and canoeing equipment and transportation from Harpers Ferry. You’ll need to provide your own camping equipment.
Package Price $199 per person.
